I'm a Milk Donor!

St. Luke's Kansas City, just became a milk donor bank. We still aren't sure if Eva can have my breast milk. After pumping for 2 1/2 months, I filled our freezer and my parents deep freeze. I was a milk producing machine!! Breast milk stays good for a year in a deep freeze and only 6 months in a freezer. Eva is on a special formula for the next 6 months or so. Before bringing Eva home, a lacation nurse talked to me about donating my milk. So I have decided to donate some of my milk to make room in the deep freeze and our freezer. I finally received paperwork in the mail from St. Luke's in Denver, Colorado. After filling out papers, getting my blood drawn today. I am finally a milk donor! (Sounds funny!) I am so grateful to be able to be donate my milk for other preemie babies to have. Today, I loaded up the girls, and 2 big igloo coolers of breast milk and took it down to St. Luke's. Tomorrow it will be shipped off to Denver. It makes me feel so good to know that I can help other babies. Once we find out whether or not Eva can have my milk, we will either donate the rest or save it for Eva.

Becky that is AWESOME!!! I am glad it worked out and it won't go to waste. I know you really did not want that to happen and to be able to help other babies is such a precious gift.

That is so cool! I can't imagine having to pump so often (I haven't even once with my second child). But I certainly would if I needed to for my own baby, and I'd love to be able to help others, too.
