Tornado warning and Surgery all in one day.......

Before Muscle Eye Surgery

Having a good ole' time in the waiting room.

Snuggling with Momma before surgery.

The day after surgery....Look at those beautiful blue eyes!

Eva had her muscle eye surgery on Wednesday. Before Daddy left for work, he gave her a blessing. We were scheduled to be at Children's Mercy Hospital at 9:30 am, her surgery was at 11 am. Since our van was still in the shop. My mom came and gave me a ride. We dropped Natalie off with a sitter then we headed down to Children's Mercy. Over this past weekend, we had a HUGE tornado in Joplin which is about 2 hours Southeast of us. A little after 11 am, the nurses took Eva back to surgery. We headed down to the the waiting room. We were there for about 10 or so minutes. Then they announced that we were in the gray area for a tornado warning and that we needed to get to the basement. So the employees in the surgery waiting room walked all of the families down to the basement to take cover. We were there for about 1.5 hours. They treated us really nice, gave us water and snacks. About an 1 after surgery, Eva's eye doctor finally found us to let us know that her surgery went really well. She was waking up and we would soon get to see her once we could go back upstairs. I was so relieved to hear that she did so well and they took really good care of her. Around 12:45, we got the all clear, we could all go back upstairs to the waiting room. What a relief!! I hadn't been able to use my phone due to no service being in the basement. So I quickly called Erich. It was so nice to talk to him and give him an update about Eva. Around 1 pm, we were finally able to see Eva. When the nurses brought her out to me in the reunion hallway, she was really upset and she was crying. I held her close, it took her a few minutes to stop crying. We went and sat in the recovery room. She drank a bottle of milk, she was fast asleep within a few minutes. It was so wonderful to hold my sweet little baby girl in my arms. I loved it. Every time she cried, drainage would come out of her eyes, so I would use some gauze to wipe the drainage. I can only imagine how much pain she was in. Poor girl! After getting her changed and dressed. We were able to leave again. As I carried her out of the hospital, she slept the whole way to the van and most of the way home. She never opened her eyes. That night, I was only one she would let hold her. She cried if anyone else held her. It was hard to tuck her in bed but I knew that she needed to get some good sleep.
Thursday morning, she woke up babbling and talking at 3 am. So I go in to check on her. She was wrestling with her blanket with her eyes shut!! I made her a fresh bottle of milk, she fell back to sleep for a few more hours. When she woke up again, she was so HAPPY! Finally, I was able to see her beautiful blue eyes! She had a little red in both eyes from the surgery, it will take a few more days to heal. Throughout the day, she would stop and stare at things in the room. I was holding her and she would stop and stare at me. So cute! I love when I talk to her, she would look at me and just smile. She did all these things before but always crossing her eyes. She sure loves the difference! She is very happy and has constantly been babbling and talking.
Today she had her post-op appointment. Her eye doctor said her eyes look great, they are healing well. YAY! We will go back in a week for another check-up. Cross our fingers, that she won't have to have another surgery. I am grateful for such a wonderful eye doctor. She really is the best! Thanks for all the prayers and kind thoughts for our little Jellybean! :)
