Taking Grandma Sally shopping....
Last Friday, We got a sitter for the girls. We went and picked up Grandma Sally. We took her shopping for a nice pair of slippers. We took her to payless, she tried on two different pairs of slippers. She really loved them both. She picked a tan pair that she could wear inside or even outside. They were lined with wool. Then we took her to lunch at Wendy's. She loved it! She hasn't gotten to eat there in a long time. We sure had fun spending time with her. When we got back to the nursing home where she lives. I walked her back to her room. She really wanted to wear her new slippers. So I helped take the tags off, and helped her slip them on her feet. I sat down next to her, and we talked for a few minutes. Before I left, I told her how much I loved her. I handed her some money. She got tears in her eyes, she really didn't want to take the money. But I insisted that she spend it on her. I know that she doesn't get very much money each month. So I knew that giving her some extra money, truly meant a lot to her. As I left, my heart was so full. I got back to the van feeling so good inside. I told Erich what had happened when I gave her the money. I immediately began to cry. I thought about everything I take for granted. WOW! Here is my sweet 82 year old Grandma who has lived in a nursing facility for 4 years now. And just by taking her shopping, out to lunch and giving her money....truly made her day! It makes me sad, that we can't do more. It has been really hard for us to see her live where she does. I wish that we could provide for her more. I look back to when I was a child, she did and has done so much for me and for my family. I will always be grateful for all that she has done. Erich and I talked about how we want to be able to care for both sets of our parents someday, if needed. Sure do love you Grandma Sally
