Hospital stay for Natalie

Friday May 18, 2013

Late Friday night, I go and check on the girls. Natalie was burning hot! I checked her saturation and she was 88-89%. As I am getting the albuterol ready and getting the oxygen hooked up. She ended up throwing up on our bed and floor poor girl. I check her temperature and she is 103!! So I give her some ibuprofen. Treatment and oxygen. She is breathing really heavy and just doesn't seem comfortable. I check her oxygen again at 1 liter and she is still 89-90. So we move up to 2 and then 3 and she is still at 90. I pack up some bags and as I am getting everything ready to head to the Children's hospital. I didn't want to drive by myself and leave hubby without a car. We ended up waking up Eva. We called my parents on the way, dropped her off at their house. We arrived at the hospital at 12:15 am. We didn't have to wait long in the ER waiting room. We were in the ER for 4 nearly 4 hours before getting admitted into room. By this time, Natalie was wide awake and really funny. After a chest x-ray , the doctors determined that she had pneumonia. Both her lungs were pretty hazy. Poor girl. She had only had a cough for 2 days.

Over the next few days, she remained on 2-3 liters of oxygen. Each night, she would dip while she was sleeping. Tuesday she was down to 1 liter and was able to sleep on room air!! WAHOO! So were discharged Wednesday afternoon. She was able to attend her last day of preschool on Thursday. She was really delighted!
