Natalie woke up this morning in a happy and cheerful mood. We even slept in a little late but it was so nice! We played all morning and had a great time together! Natalie took a morning nap and I started working on Natalie's scrapbook...2 months to 3 months old book. Around noon....I fed Natalie a bottle and rice cereal, which she is starting to like. Then she fell back to sleep. At 1, her OT therapist came over to do OT with her. Usually Natalie wakes up easily, but she didn't today. She must have been tired! Natalie became really fussy after about 20 minutes. Sara, her therapist thought that she was hot. So I took her temperature and sure enough, she was 101! She finished feeding Natalie the rest of her bottle and Natalie fell right back to sleep. Sara left and I checked Natalie's temperature again. It was 100. So I gave her some tynenol and a bath. Her temperature went down to 98. I called the pediatrician's office and spoke with a nurse. They told me to keep an eye on her, and call back if her temperature rises. At 5pm, her temperature was 103! I was so scared and nervous. I called the Pediatricians office again and since Natalie has a shunt. They thought that it would be best if we got to the ER at the Children's hospital. So I got my things ready and left. I picked up my mom on the way. Once we got checked in at the ER, we were admitted really quick because of her shunt and the dangers it could be with a fever. They drew blood, urine sample, put in an IV, took a sample of her fluid in her head, did some x-rays, and a catscan. They knew pretty quick that she had a UTI...I didn't even know that babies could get UTI's and that they would even run a fever along with it. The neurologist came in and took a fluid sample, he was pretty sure everything was okay and that she didn't have an infection in her shunt. We will know more about that tomorrow when the tests come back. Erich had a friend bring him to the hospital so that he could see Natalie. We ended up getting admitted to stay overnight. So I am here and well sitting in a hospital gown because at 11:30 pm the nurse came in to give Natalie some tynenol and within seconds Natalie threw up all over me (4 times)! I didn't even think to bring me extra clothes. So anyways...they are sitting here in our room drying! The joys of being stuck in a hospital in a gown! They ended up giving her motrin and she is sleeping. I sure hope that she sleeps good tonight. My poor little lady is so sleepy and doesn't feel good. I hate seeing her like this. I wish I could just hold her close to me when I am sleeping tonight.
